Port Orange, FL — June 3, 2025: The Family Justice Support Alliance (FJSA) is pleased to announce that Sara Santerre, a senior criminal justice student at Saint Joseph’s College, has joined the organization as a summer intern, where she will engage in investigative journalism focused on the U.S. justice and prison systems.
Sara brings a passion for truth-seeking, advocacy, and storytelling to her work. A December graduate candidate, she sought an internship that would not only fulfill her academic requirements but also align with her deep-rooted interests in systemic justice reform and public awareness.
“I am excited to have Sara join our team as an intern for the summer,” said Chris Boals, founder of the Family Justice Support Alliance. “Sara has a passion for understanding the justice system and plans to advocate for the incarcerated. Sara’s generation will be a catalyst for changing the current prison system into one that reduces recidivism.”
As part of her internship, Sara will participate in field experiences that offer her a direct and human-centered view of the criminal justice system—beyond the statistics and textbooks. She will report her observations and insights in a series of written pieces published on the FJSA website throughout the summer.
“I’ve studied topics like mental illness in prisons and systemic inequality on paper, but I’ve yet to observe them up close,” said Sara. “There are stories to be told, people to be advocated for, and systemic issues to be reported. My hope is to provide an objective and unbiased glimpse into the processes and systems with which we are simultaneously familiar and of which we remain ignorant.”
Sara’s internship not only reflects her own aspirations as a writer and advocate, but also supports FJSA’s mission to educate the public, uplift voices affected by incarceration, and pursue humane reforms within the justice system.
